Srinagar, Mar 28 (KNO): Amidist the holy month Ramadan, the residents of HMT Zainakote area in Srinagar outskirts have complained that they are forced to consume muddy and contaminated drinking water from over a month.
Voicing their distress, locals expressed grave concerns over the quality of the water supplied to the households.
Locals who spoke to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that during the ongoing month of Ramadan they have been receiving muddy water supply through taps and that several people have fallen ill due to its usage.
“Have a look on the water supply we are receiving through taps, and unfortunately this happened in this holy month of Ramadan. Somebody from PHE should visit our area to address the concern,” said Mohammad Yousuf, a local resident.
Residents said that they have to boil the water before making it able for drinking purpose.
Zaffar Habib Dar, a social and political activist from the area said that their area is suffering due to this muddy and contaminated water supply from over a month now and that nobody from the PHE is bothered to visit their area to ensure clean water supply.
“Everyone doesn’t have water purifiers at home, this water is full of mud and silt, is this the water we will consume. We have brought this into the notice of PHE authorities, hope they mitigate our sufferings”, he said.
Meanwhile, in response to the escalating crisis, a senior PHE official while speaking to KNO assured action, stating that a team of officials had been dispatched to collect water samples from the area. "If there is any issue, we will see to it," assured the official—(KNO)
